Kathryn Khadija Leverette is an acne specialist, ethnic and black skin care expert, licensed esthetician, independent product development consultant, freelance writer, and industry educator. Her areas of expertise include protocols for acne treatment, razor bumps, skin tone issues (including dark spots and uneven skin tone), sensitive skin, sports and obesity-related skin problems, and acne scar treatment.
She has stayed on the cutting edge in the areas of acne treatment and ethnic skin care to this day. Kat opened the Bay Area’s first acne clinic in 1987 in Oakland, CA. Leverette’s clientele has always been about 85% African-American, 40% of which are men, and a 15% mix of African, Hispanic, Caucasian, Asian, West Indian, Asian Indian, Pacific Islander and Native American clients.

Leverette is best known in the industry for developing the first internationally-recognized program to successfully treat skin of color, including razor bumps and acne keloidalis nuchae scalp bumps and scars). She was the first esthetician to utilize and write about the alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic and lactic acid) and the very first to introduce the use of alpha hydroxy acids in Europe.

She was a contributing editor to the popular, now defunct Black Journal of Cosmetology known as ShopTalk magazine for many years.

Kat Leverette is an independent consultant, trainer and educator and works with skin care companies and clinics, helping them develop specialized protocols, write label copy ad content, and educational materials, and develop state-of-the-industry products.
